Our Hunts
WHITETAIL DEER We usually start taking our deer hunters in the last two weeks of October. The weather is nice this time of year usually, dropping below freezing at night and then back above during the day. The bucks are in pre-rut at this time of year. Peak of the rut is mid November. Our main method of hunting now is over food plots and hunting is done from stands or ground blinds. The ground blinds can be heated if required. We do still go rattling which can be very exciting at times. Hunting methods can and do change during the season so we remain flexible and change with the deer movements. We do move clients to different locations if you are not seeing what we think you should be! Our clients that have been coming for years will stay on stand all day because you never know when deer will move in the forest. They are not pressured like deer in the farmland and will move all day. Average bucks taken score in the 135 to 165 range with the majority at the 150 mark. Numerous bucks go up to the 185 or higher mark. Every year we have several bucks in the 170's. Live weights run from 250 to 360 plus pounds. Generally we take 8 hunters a week with almost all being return clients. Hunter success is very high What To Bring Warm layered clothing. Sleeping bag, rain gear, gun case for use when we are using the atv's. Hunting licenses are available in Preeceville upon arrival. BLACK BEAR We run our Trophy Black Bear hunts from the start of May until the end of June. We also have a fall bear hunt but prefer spring. Our bears vary in color from pale cinnamon to black. We do get quite a few browns and chocolate colored bears. 30 to 40 % are color phase . We hunt over ACTIVE baits that are checked and baited regularly. Most baits are only reached by atv. You are not required to hunt the same bait all week, we move the hunters as needed to show you what you are looking for. Most hunting is done in the afternoon but sometimes morning hunts are needed if the trail cams show us a morning mover. Morning hunts are left to the hunters option as you must be out very early. Hunts are from stands or ground blinds, hunter's choice. Success runs very high with all hunters normally seeing multiple bears throughout the week. Trophy quality is great with Pope and Young easily taken and bears are always shot in the 21 inch range each year. Quality rain gear along with knee high rubber boots is recommended.
About Us
We operate our Whitetail Deer and Black Bear hunts from our lodge located 35 miles north of Preeceville, Saskatchewan, in the Porcupine Provincial Forest, Wildlife Management Zone 56. The camp is accessible by vehicle. My father, Willard (1938 - 2014), trapped and outfitted in this area since 1959. Myself, Keith, has been up in these woods since I was 4 years old with my dad and fully engaged in the outfitting since 1986. My son is also involved now that he has finished high school. Needless to say, we know our area well. Our camp can serve up to 8 clients per week. We have a semi -modern camp and yes, we have a shower! All breakfast meals are prepared by myself, with suppers prepared by a good friend of ours, Kim. You will never go hungry here! We are honest, hard working outfitters only interested in one thing, your success. This is a true family operation
